The seminar "Bioinformatics" and the exercise "Molecular biology in the internet" are suited for biology/biochemistry students of the 6.-10. semester as well as for bioinformatics students.

In seminars, we will present and discuss fundamental prediction algorithms. In practical exercises, we will perform our own computational analyses.

The one-week course will take place during the semester break (six hours per day, 8:30 - 14:30).

    Material

  • Databases
  • Sequence comparisons (pairwise alignments)
  • Homology searches in DNA and protein databases
  • Motif searches: Database searches for related proteins using typical sequence motifs or sequence patterns

The material for download come from different courses which took place over the last years at the EMBnet.
